Following our update last week about the devastating loss of our Gaza team’s newly purchased medicines and vital equipment, we’ve been overwhelmed by your response.
Thanks to your generosity, over £20,000 has been raised – an incredible show of support that will not only help us replace what was lost, but also sustain our team’s work in the challenging months ahead.
We’ve already sent out an initial £12,000 to the team, enabling Dr Saif to urgently restock essential veterinary supplies – including syringes, iodine, antiseptic spray, dressings, bandages, medical boxes, gloves, face masks, and even their treasured Safe Haven uniforms.
Crucially, they’ve also been able to buy desperately needed fuel – a costly but vital resource that ensures the team can carry out emergency visits and evacuations when needed.
We are truly humbled by your kindness. Thank you, from all of us.
You are such an important part of our team – helping us care for working donkeys living in dire conditions.
This week I’m sending you an update from our teams in Egypt – it’s showing the impact of our work there, and how donkeys’ lives are improving thanks to you!

Our Gaza team have already been able to replace some of their lost medications and equipment, including uniforms.
News from Egypt
When our first mobile vet team, led by Dr Shaaban, began working in El Saf back in 2023, the conditions in many of the local brick kilns were truly shocking. In some of the worst – what we called ‘red’ kilns – donkeys were arriving with low body condition scores, untreated wounds, and severe lameness.
Today, we’re proud to share just how far things have come. Thanks to ongoing visits and care, the transformation has been remarkable – and as you’ll see below, the donkeys now look healthier, stronger, and happier than ever.
This photo, sent by Dr Shaaban earlier this week, shows just how well the donkeys are doing. Their lives – and health – are truly improving.
Much of our day-to-day work in Egypt focuses on treating wounds caused by poor harnessing, trimming overgrown hooves, and responding to emergency call-outs when donkeys are injured – often caused by pulling heavy loads.
Our second team in El Saf is continuing to have an amazing impact – helping us reach more donkeys in the kilns and the surrounding villages.
Specialist veterinary equipment is vital to our work – not just in Egypt, but also in the West Bank and Gaza. Here, Dr Shaaban uses an X-ray machine to examine a donkey’s leg for signs of injury, helping us diagnose problems quickly and provide the right treatment.

With your support, we can continue to be there for donkeys, mules, and horses who need us – whether it’s providing vital veterinary care to hardworking animals, or offering a safe, loving home at our sanctuaries, to those who have been abandoned or abused in Israel and the West Bank.
This handsome mule is a perfect example of how healthy a well-cared-for working animal can be.
One day we hope every animal we see is as healthy as the mule in the photo above. And with your support we know this is possible.
Thank you ♥️♥️
It’s only with your help we are able to improve the lives of working donkeys, mules and horses in the West Bank, Gaza and Egypt. You’re also helping to fund our hospital in Nablus in the West Bank and care for our rescue donkeys in Arrana, as well as our donkeys at our sanctuary in Israel.
