We are sometimes called upon to rescue unwanted donkeys in the West Bank (Palestinian Territories) and due to the risk of spreading disease, we cannot just pop them into a horsebox and drive them across the border to our sanctuary in Israel. Instead the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture have just very generously agreed that the donkeys can spend six weeks at their quarantine facility before the donkeys are then transported onto the sanctuary. Several donkeys are waiting at our holding base in the West Bank town of Qalqilya and unbeknownst to us, one of them must have been pregnant when she came to us because one morning last week, the vet looking after them came out to give them their breakfast and found that a beautiful little black foal had been born. We have called him Robin and we hope that he and his mother will soon be amongst the first batch of donkeys transferred to the quarantine facility ready for their onward journey to their new lives.
