I wanted to share a heartwarming story about two young donkeys, Be’eri and Fabian (pictured above), that has deeply touched us here at Safe Haven for Donkeys.
At our sanctuary in Israel, we care for donkeys with a wide range of backgrounds, but the story of Be’eri and Fabian is particularly moving.

News from the Sanctuary, Israel
Be’eri came to us about a year ago after being rescued from the border of the Gaza Strip. He was very young, lonely, and vulnerable. When we tried to integrate him into our main donkey herd, it became clear that Be’eri
struggled to socialise. He couldn’t compete with the older donkeys for food or water and seemed utterly lost.
Fabian, arrived only recently after being rescued from the Negev region. Like Be’eri, he was young, thin, and frightened. We gave him all the care he needed, including tending his wounds.
Fabian is a more recent rescue, in need of veterinary care and a lot of love
Recognising the challenges both donkeys faced, our team decided to house them together, hoping they could support one another. To our delight, the connection was immediate.
Be’eri, who had previously struggled to socialise, began showing newfound confidence with Fabian by his side. Meanwhile, Fabian found a true friend in Be’eri.
Be’eri and Fabian soon became firm friends!
Today, the two are inseparable – sharing food and playing in the pasture. Their story reminds us of the incredible power of friendship, even in the animal world! Donkeys bond for life, so we are so happy to see this.

Their bond is a beautiful reminder that, even in the toughest times, with a little help and a supportive hand, it’s possible to find a home, security, and a lifelong friend!
