Our donkey update – 15th August 2024

Dr Rakan, Wael and a vet student – Dr Reda – travelled out to Balata Refugee Camp this week. The camp is not only home to a large community but also donkeys, horses and other working animals.

We also have a photo of Dr Rakan examining a pregnant donkey using an ultrasound. This ultrasound is just a small part of the equipment you are helping to fund, to keep so many animals healthy, so thank you very much for all your support helping animals in need.

News from the West Bank

When our mobile vet teams visit different areas of the West Bank, quite often it’s not just donkeys and horses that benefit! Below you can see a camel and one of a herd of calves that Dr Rakan checked up on.

Dr Rakan has been shadowed by a number of vet students in recent months. The latest placement is Dr Reda, who is studying at the An-Najah university. Dr Reda will be with the team for two weeks to learn about equine care.

The vet team treat all sorts of issues that the donkeys and horses might have. Some are quite joyful – here you can see Dr Rakan using an ultrasound to see if a donkey is pregnant – and she is! This ultrasound machine was funded by donors just like you – so thank you.

Often the simplest things – like a new head collar – can make the biggest impact to a donkey’s welfare. Head collars made from chains are common as they are cheap and easy to buy but they can cause injury.

Thank you!

It’s only with your help we are able to improve the lives of working donkeys, mules and horses in Egypt, the West Bank, and Gaza, as well as care for all the animals at our sanctuary in Israel, and our rescue centre and hospital over in the West Bank.

We hope this update has helped to show you how your donations are helping donkeys in desperate need – thank you for your support!
