Our donkey update – 17th October 2024

We recently welcomed three new rescue donkeys – including a new arrival just a few days ago. We’ll keep you updated on their progress as they settle in with their new friends.

It’s all thanks to your support that we can provide these abandoned donkeys with food, veterinary care, and a home, so we hope you enjoy this week’s update and photos.

News from the Sanctuary

Life at the Sanctuary is always busy! Here you can see Moussa preparing the shelter with fresh sawdust to keep the area – and donkeys – warm and dry.

You’re being watched Moussa!

We love the way the donkeys keep a close eye on Moussa’s hard work!

The donkeys watch Moussa to see what he’s doing

Moussa also puts out their food – a nutritional mix and chopped hay – into the shallow feeders. We use shallow feeders to try to prevent eye injuries from the hay. The donkeys are enthusiastic eaters and do tend to put their heads deep into the trough!

Our donkeys are kept in the best of health with their nutritional mix and hay

Out in the paddock we checked in with some of our well known residents. Here are Hope and Nader. We can’t believe how big he’s grown! He’s nearly the same size as his mum.

Two of our recent rescues – Rosie and Fabian – were reported by a good Samaritan who found them injured near Arad. After providing them with food and water he contacted us for help. We’re happy to report that Rosie and Fabian have settled in well at the Sanctuary.

Rosie and Fabian were kept in quarantine when they first arrived

Our most recent addition is Sally, a 10-year-old donkey. Our vet, Dr. Eliran, has confirmed she’s in good health but we’ll keep her in quarantine for now to ensure she does not carry any diseases that could affect the herd.

Sally was reported as an abandoned donkey in the Ben Shemesh area, and we promptly sent transport to bring her to the Sanctuary, which is now her forever home.

Thank you ♥️♥️

t’s only with your help we are able to improve the lives of working donkeys, mules and horses in the West Bank, Gaza and Egypt. You’re also helping to fund our hospital in Nablus in the West Bank and care for our rescue donkeys in Arrana, as well as our donkeys at our sanctuary in Israel.

Fabian arrived at the Sanctuary with injuries from being beaten. We have provided veterinary care and lots of love to this gentle animal.
