This week I’m bringing you a report from Dr Shaaban in Egypt. His story shows how dedicated our teams are – and how with your support they never give up on a donkey in need.
Thank you so much for all the support you give to Safe Haven for Donkeys – it’s only with your support we can continue to fund our vet teams and sanctuaries.
News from El Saf, Egypt
Dr Shaaban’s team first encountered a donkey in dire need back in January. As Dr Shaaban tells us:
“Mr Karrem, the owner of one of the brick kilns we visit, informed us his donkey had unfortunately had a cart accident. When we arrived the donkey was lying down bleeding so we quickly went to work to help.”
“Firstly, we had to stop the bleeding, so applied pressure and bandaged his wounds on his front and back hooves. We then sedated him and washed the two injured hooves which both had severe lacerations, taking x-rays to examine the bones for damage.”
“With wounds like these, infection is the biggest problem. And because the donkey had injured two feet it was a challenge. We provided antibiotics and anti inflammatories for seven days but our treatment then continued for months, providing regular hoof baths and hoof trimming.”
“Here you can see a photo after 4 months of treatment – a new hoof was appearing!”
“We are pleased to say that after 7 months of treatment the donkey is fully recovered. It makes us so happy to see this – and all thanks to supporters of Safe Haven who help to fund our work. Thank you!”
Thank you!
It’s only with your help we are able to improve the lives of working donkeys, mules and horses in Egypt, the West Bank, and Gaza, as well as care for all the animals at our sanctuary in Israel, and our rescue centre and hospital over in the West Bank.
We hope this update has helped to show you how your donations are helping donkeys in desperate need – thank you for your support!
