Our donkey update – 26th September 2024

We hope you enjoy the latest update from Safe Haven for Donkeys, where your support continues to make a significant difference.

This week, we have some heartwarming stories from the West Bank and Israel, where you are helping to make such a difference to the donkeys in our care.

News from the West Bank

Dr Rakan has been busy with his mobile vet clinics again this week, including a visit to an old friend and helping out a foal in need.

Dr Rakan’s student examines the foal

Dr Rakan was asked to examine a foal that had been poorly for a few days – the foal wasn’t eating, was lethargic, and coughing. After a thorough check-up Dr Rakan was able to give the foal fluid therapy, vitamins, antibiotics and antipyretic drugs to reduce his fever. The foal responded well and Dr Rakan will return in a few days to check up on his new friend.

Dr Rakan provided extensive treatment to the foal and he’s now doing well

Dr. Rakan also paid a visit to an old friend, a donkey that once desperately needed veterinary attention. Back then, Dr. Rakan came to the rescue, providing the donkey with medication, food, and a nose cover. We think the photo below shows how grateful the donkey was.

This week, Dr. Rakan visited his friend to give him a check-up and was delighted to find the male donkey looking very healthy!

News from Israel

Our final photos this week are from the Sanctuary – showing the donkeys enjoyed a game of ball! The sight of our rescue donkeys playing is so heartwarming.

Desmond was very brave and the first to play with the ball. To see videos of Desmond and other donkeys playing, you can visit our blog page by clicking here.

At first, the rest of the donkeys seemed unsure, moving around the ball cautiously, but they soon overcame their initial fears and started playing.

Stop Press!

Our team in Israel recently discovered two abandoned donkeys in the southern region of Negev. The pair, a male and female, are estimated to be between 18 months to 2 years old. It’s believed that the female is expecting a foal. Both donkeys have received veterinary care and vaccinations.

We’ve included a video of our newest rescues below and will share further updates soon.
