Dr Rakan recently sent us a report of his visit to Jericho. It was an incredibly hot day, at over 40 degrees and Dr Rakan noticed a flock of sheep passing along the roadside – with a very special donkey. You can read more in this week’s e-news. Such a heartwarming story!
Thank you once again for making all our work to help donkeys – wherever they are in the West Bank, Egypt, Gaza and Israel. You truly are making such a difference to their lives.
News from the West Bank
Dr Rakan has sent us his report from Jericho – and how the team came to the rescue of a donkey in need:
“We were travelling along the road leaving Jericho in incredibly hot conditions – around 40 degrees – and noticed a shepherd carrying his dog, walking alongside a very drowsy donkey and his sheep. We couldn’t pass by!”
“I could see the donkey’s head was injured and bloody. I asked the owner what had happened and he told us his dog was stuck in a barbed wire fence and the donkey had tried to help his friend!
“The donkey managed to free his dog friend from the fence but both were injured – including puncture wounds on the donkey’s head while he was pushing at the sharp wire fencing.”
“We washed the donkey’s wounds with antiseptic solution and applied cream, as well as giving antibiotic and painkiller injections. We were then pleased to see his condition was stable and he was no longer drowsy. But we couldn’t leave the dog without treatment!”
“The dog needed sedating and we disinfected his wound and used 20 stitches to close the wound. He also received painkiller and antibiotic injections. We gave the owner medications for both of his friends, and he waved us off with a thankful smile as he headed back into the mountains.”
Thank you!
It’s only with your help we are able to improve the lives of working donkeys, mules and horses in Egypt, the West Bank, and Gaza, as well as care for all the animals at our sanctuary in Israel, and our rescue centre and hospital over in the West Bank.
We hope this update has helped to show you how your donations are helping donkeys in desperate need – thank you for your support!
