Communication out of Gaza continues to be patchy, but today we have an update from Dr Saif on how your support is helping our Gaza team to continue their work, providing first aid to donkeys, mules, and horses in dire need.
Dr Saif’s report and photos really do highlight the desperation of the situation, so please do not underestimate the critical role you play in our work in Gaza – as well as the West Bank, Egypt, and Israel.
Safe Haven operates in some of the most challenging and hardest-to-reach areas, offering veterinary treatment and sanctuary to animals in need, and we simply couldn’t do this without your support.
News from Gaza
Dr Saif has sent us an update from Gaza, with examples of the type of treatment the team are providing:
“We’re trying hard to treat as many donkeys and horses as we can. It’s really risky, but we are dedicated to this mission. So many people have asked me to send their gratitude to Safe Haven for Donkey supporters for helping provide free veterinary treatment to their animals.”
“These photos are of Deir Al-Balah. It’s one of the most concentrated refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. By working here we are able to reach a large community, and help so many animals in need of first aid.”
Our team undertake a lot of work in Deir Al-Balah refugee camp – the largest in the Gaza Strip
“The donkeys and horses in Gaza are vital to help transport fresh water and food supplies to the community.”

“Yesterday was a difficult day for the team. We were working in the Western Camp in Khan Younis, where hundreds of thousands of refugees are now living. We experienced a sudden attack and many houses were wiped out, with people killed and hundreds injured.”

Thank you
Our team are working in unimaginable conditions in Gaza, helping horses and donkeys by providing first aid for harness and shrapnel wounds, as well as more routine treatment to teeth and hooves. Thank you for your support.
