This week, I’m sharing an update from our team in Gaza. Due to intermittent WiFi, sending photos and updates can be challenging, so we’ve included highlights from the past month to give you an idea of the vital work our team is carrying out under incredibly difficult circumstances.
Thank you, as always, for your invaluable support. As a small charity, we deliver a big programme – working across Gaza, the West Bank, Egypt, and Israel. Every penny you give makes a difference and helps us to care for more donkeys and horses in need.
News from Gaza
3rd October 2024:
“The team were operating in a Red Zone area (Bani Suheila, a town in eastern Khan Yunis) when we received an immediate evacuation warning from the Israeli Army. But we had received urgent calls from donkey and horse owners requesting help. Despite the risks, we decided to respond and be present to help animals wherever we could.
14th October 2024:
“We’re now in the Municipality of Ab-Asan Al-Jadedah, southwest of Gaza City and southeast of Khan Yunis. We’ve received urgent calls for help from donkey owners there. Once a well-developed town with good roads, this area is now devastated, leaving donkeys and horses as the only means of navigating the destroyed roads.
Our team work in incredibly difficult circumstances to provide first aid to horses and donkeys
19th October:
“We have made good progress this week, visiting three areas: Al-Fukhari: located between Khuza’a and Rafah, just west of the border with Israel. Al-Zana: an agricultural town east of Khan Yunis, which has been completely destroyed by the ongoing war. Mawasi Khan Yunis: a coastal area in southwest Khan Yunis, currently sheltering thousands of refugees, mostly in makeshift tents.
“These three areas are also home to so many donkeys and horses. I’m pleased to say we were able to provide much-needed treatment including first aid to sores and wounds.
27th October:
“Our team have been working in Deir al-Balah Camp today, a refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip. Currently, it’s home to hundreds of thousands of refugees from various cities. We were surprised that so many people came to ask for help. You can see here they are lining up for their donkeys and horses to receive treatment. It was almost overwhelming.
Our team were almost overwhelmed by the number of donkeys and horses lining up for treatment.
“I want to end my report by passing on a message from one of the donkey owners. He asked me to give his thanks to the team and Safe Haven supporters:
“my donkey’s back was deeply injured and now the donkey is getting better after receiving the necessary medication and first aid from the Safe Haven for Donkeys’ team. Thank you.”
Thank you ♥️♥️
t’s only with your help we are able to improve the lives of working donkeys, mules and horses in the West Bank, Gaza and Egypt. You’re also helping to fund our hospital in Nablus in the West Bank and care for our rescue donkeys in Arrana, as well as our donkeys at our sanctuary in Israel.
Our work in Gaza is only possible thanks to your support. We hope the update and photos show you the impact your donations are having on the lives of donkeys and horses living in unimaginable conditions.
